Instagram Follower Tracker Extension — and why you may not need one

There are two ways to use InstaLens, and most people who arrive looking for a Chrome extension end up wanting the other one. This page explains both honestly so you can pick once.

The extension

The InstaLens extension adds follower and following data to instagram.com itself. You browse Instagram as usual; the extension surfaces who is new, who left, and who never followed you back, in the interface you are already looking at.

It runs entirely in your browser. It reads the same data Instagram's own web app reads, on your own session, and it rate-limits itself to behave like ordinary browsing.

Its real limitation is that it only works while you are there. Open the tab, and it looks. Close the laptop, and nothing happens. If you check once a month, that is fine. If you want to know that someone left on the Tuesday they left, it is not.

The hosted version, which installs nothing

This is what most people are actually searching for when they type without a program, online, or no download.

Nothing is installed on your computer. You connect an Instagram account once — a throwaway account works — and scheduled jobs check it from then on, hourly, daily, or weekly. You close the tab and forget about it. The next time you look, the history is there: who followed, who left, which scan caught it.

The account runs on an isolated virtual device rather than through your own browser, so the checks continue whether or not your machine is on. Credentials are encrypted at rest and are never shared.

Which one

Use the extension if you want a quick look at an account you are already browsing, you check occasionally, and you would rather nothing ran without you watching it.

Use the hosted version if you want to be told what changed rather than go looking, if you track more than one account, or if the answer "who unfollowed me and when" matters more than "who is not following me back right now".
